Gift~Giving during the Coronavirus Season

All hail the ultra~generous, talented, and SPIC(e)Y Cori McDermott❣️

I had the pleasure of meeting this firecracker while living in Colorado.

During this #CoronaCraze, she has been finding ways to stay zen while under quarantine. One method has been creating handmade jewelry.

Out of the goodness of her heart, she has been gifting her special pieces to friends and family. Fortunately, I made the cut. So, Ms. Fabulousness sent me goodies in my favorite stone, labradorite. One of my new toys is an eyeglass chain, featuring my beloved stone with spinel accents.

I must say that I’ve never thought about putting my glasses on a chain of sorts, but am discovering that this beautiful, “gemified” accessory is really a game~changer for me as I’m near~sighted (great at reading fine~print) with a preference for the blur of life (or “Monet vision”) for things afar… so, as a result, would rather just have my glasses on standby instead of wearing them all of the time; The disadvantage, particularly while onsite at work, is that I tend to realize that I need them for something while they’re sitting on my work station and I’m on the other side of the building.

But I digress…

Not only did I get the cool specs chain, but also, an emerald & labradorite necklace and aventurine & labradorite bracelet❣️🤗

To TOP it OFF, Cori sent me additional jewelry to send to healthcare/ essential workers during this pandemic to show her appreciation!

She has sent me two gorgeous necklaces, one made of lava and jasper… and the other, of amethyst and quartz; They will make their way to the right owners in a timely fashion.

Oh yeah… and there’s MORE!!!

This woman even sent my baby, Chloe, a burlap bag of catnip from her cool business, Purr Say (purrsay.com)!

Chloe is NOT a jumper, but when I happened to place the burlap bag on top of her litter box hut, I discovered that she had scoped it and hopped up to nuzzle away at her new toy!🤗

THANK YOU, CORI❣️❣️❣️

Midnight Snacking Gets Serious

So, I still owe you part two of my survival stew~turned~leftover soup, but just had to share my random creation, made last night, right before doing an overnight shift (a benefit of now mostly working remotely)!

On Friday, I ventured out of the house for the first time in eleven days only to discover that the natives… mainly carnivores… got greedy and raided “my” tofu section at ShopRite. 🤨 Hell, they raided most of the produce section!

The only thing aside from my Beyond Meat products available were two types of seasoned jackfruit, chili~lime and “bar~b~que”. I got both and decided that I’d start with the barbecue flavor with that pulled pork effect and whip up something with one of the only few things plentiful on the grocery store’s display, sweet potatoes.

Before roasting the potatoes, I seasoned them with the usual garlic, rosemary, black pepper, and basil-infused olive oil. This time though, I put a little dollop of honey (I don’t buy sugar) to cut the possible bitterness… something that the jackfruit definitely ended up having which was quickly remedied with sweetness which made the barbecue sauce much better.

I was STUFFED and quite proud of myself for my meal being so tender and flavorful with decent presentation!🤗

Happy Holidays❣️

PART 1 of 2 ~ SURVIVAL “STEW vs. SOUP” (Inspired on 3/30/2020) ~

I am definitely NO CHEF, but do know how to survive and make reasonably tasty, healthy, illness-preventing food last a long time while on a budget and/ or LOCKDOWN… the new normal. Aside from cheating for the first week of isolation by ordering a lot of GrubHub to support businesses (and avoid actually cooking), I’ve managed to make two weeks’ worth of food last for a month. In this group of pics and video (go to my Facebook or Instagram to see my video), I decided (at 1 o’clock in the morning) to make with similar ingredients that I had roasted days earlier (3/27/2020), (red) potato soup with a lot of other vegetables like red onions, sweet peppers, broccoli, and baby spinach… add some Angostura Bitters (a Trini thing), sautéed Beyond (fake) sausage and quinoa then, DROWNED them all in minced ginger and garlic to knock out any possible “Corona Cooties” in my body. My house smelled HEAVENLY!!!🤗 Anyway, as I anticipated during my experiment, the quinoa took over the liquid and what was intended to be potato soup turned into quinoa stew. Et  voila, with the assistance of a mound of delicious Parmesan shavings, a flavorful, hearty meal was made!

You can see how I took advantage of the stew versus soup issue in Part 2.

I Met…

I met a man… I met a man, not my style,
but I decided to speak to him, for a while.

He chatted with me of his woes
and his secret life where anything goes.

I met a man with intensity in his eyes that smile
when he speaks of those… more than one he calls his child.

I met a man who loves me so…
My heart is full and with him, I will go.

*Public Service Announcement for Party Hosts*

If you are an exceptionally cleanly person who wants to keep unhygienic remnants of the world out of your space, DO NOT invite people to your home for a special holiday (or any) event without NOTIFYING them in ADVANCE that you REQUIRE their SHOES to be REMOVED upon arrival; Many people put a lot of time, effort, and MONEY into having their OUTFITS be ON-POINT and don’t need their looks ruined by having to—

1. drag their long pants/ dresses on the ground because they UNEXPECTEDLY had to remove their high-heels…

2. regret their last-minute mini-skirt choice due to revealing their stubbled legs, bruise or wrinkled slacks that were tucked in knee-high boots…

3. be embarrassed because, heaven forbid, they either left the house with or developed a hole in their socks on the way to your gathering…

4. explain what their fierce cosplay couture get-up would’ve looked like with their kicks in-tact…

5. become FURIOUS because someone stole their Manolo Blahniks that would’ve been otherwise securely guarded by their “foot soldiers” (a shout-out to Carrie on “Sex and the City”)

It is rude and inconsiderate to do so because their pride and (hopefully) uplifted party spirit are more important than your having to sweep and disinfect your floors when they’re gone… something that you’d probably be dying to do anyway, freak {geisha~giggle}.

You’re welcome.😼

Midwife Life~

So… the other day, midway through binge-watching the first three seasons of “Call the Midwife” (based on a true memoir), on Netflix, it dawned on me that the main character was around the same age as my mother when she became a Registered Nurse and Midwife (at 16) during the identical era with a similar British essence. The only difference was that one was working in England and the other, in Trinidad (and/ or Tobago). It became surreal to recognize the uniforms that were the same as the one pictured of my mother in hers… as well as to recall my mother talking about surgeries where she had to speak up before certain doctors made mistakes on her watch. Oh, and let us not forget the concept of riding around town on a bike to get to patients’ homes to deliver their babies.

My mother would later move to the States, leave surgery to work in drug/ alcohol units (where famous people passed through) before finding her calling as Senior Registered Nurse of Psychiatry.

I wonder what Netflix would do with her crazy memoirs.

The Doggone Truth

I must come to grips with the fact that I am the parent of a little, furry terrorist. I’ve tried my best with baby Zsa-Zsa, the Pomeranian, but she has won the battle of diva destruction with a smile.
